Athletico Madrid Loanee Joao Felix’s future is not certain at Stamford Bridge as New Manager, Mauricio Pochettino makes decision on the Portuguese return to Les Colchoneros.

Mauricio Pochettino was announced as Chelsea’s manager with a two year deal and an option to renew. In a statement made by Athletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo, it is inferred that Mauricio Pochettino is not certain to add Joao Felix to his squad admist his desire to be in the blue jersey.

“We’ve been informed that Pochettino does not count with Joao Felix for Chelsea,” Cerezo said. “He will return here, we’ll see. We have nothing planned.”

Joao Felix joined Chelsea in the winter on a six month loan fee of £11 million.  However his contract did not include an option to buy hence any intention of maintaining him at Stamford Bridge was left with both teams to decide.

He dubuted in a Premier League match against Fulham and scored a goal but was unfortunately sent off for a rash challenge.

He has so far contributed 4 goals in his 20 appearances but has has not had enough playing time at the club.

He also expressed his desire to stay in North London and continue to play in the blue jersey.”I don’t know yet my future but these four or five months, I’ve loved it. It’s a top club, everyone in the club is very good to me, my teammates are unbelievable and I really like to be here.” He said.

Joao Felix will return to join his teammates in Athletico Madrid ahead of the 2023/2024 season.
