Corrections & clarifications

The 1957 News is committed to accuracy. Errors undermine trust — and trust is the foundation of everything we do. Our policy is as follows:

• We correct without delay. When we identify an error — whether reported by a reader or caught internally — we fix it as soon as possible, typically within two hours of verification.
• We label corrections clearly. A correction notice appears at the top of the amended article, stating what was wrong and what is correct.
• We do not delete articles. We correct them. Deleting an article to hide an error is not acceptable practice. In extraordinary circumstances (legal requirements, serious harm to a named private individual), we may unpublish, but we note this publicly.
• We distinguish corrections from clarifications. A correction fixes a factual error. A clarification adds context that was missing but did not make the original claim false.
• We correct social media posts too. If an error was shared widely, we post a correction thread or update to the same channel.
