Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially confirmed he will join Spanish giants Real Madrid at the end of the 2024/2025 season. In a heartfelt video message, the English defender announced the highly anticipated move, marking the end of a remarkable 20-year journey with Liverpool Football Club.

Alexander-Arnold clarified that the decision to leave was driven not by a desire to find something better but rather by a personal need to embrace a new environment and challenge himself elsewhere. “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life,” he admitted.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news, revealing that a five-year contract has been agreed upon, with a verbal agreement already in place.

In his post on X, Trent Alexander-Arnold described the move as the hardest decision of his life.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life,” he wrote.

He went on to express heartfelt gratitude to the managers, teammates, supporters, and staff who made his 20-year journey so special.

“I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here.”“From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff, and our incredible supporters – for the last 20 years,” he added.

During his time at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold won every major trophy available. His silverware includes the UEFA Champions League in the 2018/2019 season, the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020, the UEFA Super Cup in 2019, and the FA Cup in 2022. He was also part of the Liverpool squad that lifted the Premier League titles in both the 2019/2020 and 2024/2025 seasons. Additionally, he won the Community Shield in the 2022/2023 campaign and claimed two Carabao Cup titles in 2022 and 2024.

This season alone, the 26-year-old made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing eight assists. He first joined Liverpool’s U18 squad during the 2015/2016 season and was promoted to the senior side in 2016/2017. His departure marks the end of a homegrown legacy at Anfield and the start of a bold new adventure in Spain with Los Blancos.
