Cousin to former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Gabby Otchere-Darko, says he would be surprised if Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey renews his contract with Arsenal for just one year, even if it comes with a significant pay rise.
Despite identifying as a passionate Arsenal supporter, Otchere-Darko described the club’s treatment of Partey over the past few years as “bloody awful” and disrespectful.
He appears to favour the midfielder’s departure as a free agent, suggesting that signing with a new club would be more beneficial than spending another season at the Emirates Stadium.
“I am a Gooner and a strong loyalist at that, but the disrespect @Arsenal has shown Thomas in the last couple of years is bloody awful. I will be surprised if he accepts a mere one-year contract extension, even with a significant pay rise. The rest of the football world can see his great value and can get him for free as his contract ends this season. ” He said.
Partey was absent from Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final 1-0 defeat to PSG at the Emirates Stadium which Gunners defender Matt Upson described as affecting balance of the Gunners in the game.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has reportedly opened talks with the 31-year-old midfielder over a new contract to keep him at the club.
Sources indicate Partey would consider a one-year deal, provided it includes an option to extend for an additional year.
