A total of 2,154 people registered onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) during the NHIS Festive Pulse activation at this year’s Asafotufiam Festival in Ada.
The registrations formed part of the NHIS Festive Pulse initiative, which brought registration, membership renewal and public education services closer to residents and festival patrons throughout the celebration.
The team also educated patrons on the NHIS benefit package and key initiatives, including the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) programme and the One-Time Attendance Code (OTAC). Patrons were encouraged to register, renew expired memberships and update their membership details to maintain active NHIS membership.
As part of the activation, the Festive Pulse team engaged listeners on Eagle FM, using the opportunity to explain ongoing reforms and respond to concerns about NHIS services. Angela Asiedu, Ag. Deputy Director, Marketing and Branding, Corporate Affairs Directorate, highlighted measures being introduced to address illegal charges at credentialed health facilities, including OTAC, which is intended to strengthen accountability and protect NHIS members.
The team also highlighted reforms to ensure the prompt payment of claims to credentialed healthcare providers, which will support improved service delivery and address concerns around delayed claims reimbursement.
At the grand durbar of the Asafotufiam Festival, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Alimo, NHIS Dangme East District Manager, encouraged residents and festival patrons to take advantage of the NHIS presence at the festival grounds to register and renew their memberships.
The Festive Pulse team also paid courtesy calls on the Member of Parliament for Ada, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, the District Chief Executive for Ada East, Hon. Kenneth Kabu Kanor, and the District Chief Executive for Ada West, Hon. Modjifatanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah. The leaders welcomed the initiative and encouraged residents and festival patrons to take advantage of the services available.
The 2,154 registrations recorded in Ada demonstrate the value of taking NHIS services directly to communities through major festivals. Beyond registration, the Festive Pulse initiative provides an opportunity for the Scheme to engage the public, educate members on its benefits and policies, address concerns and strengthen the NHIS brand.
NHIS Festive Pulse leverages major festivals across the country to bring NHIS services and public education closer to communities and visitors.
