Three persons are believed to have died after a helicopter crashed into the Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One on the afternoon of Monday, March 16, 2026.

The aircraft according to reports is said to have suddenly plummeted from the sky and slammed into the school park, bursting into flames upon impact and sending shockwaves through the densely populated residential area.

Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service were quickly on the scene to battle the blaze, while officers from the Ghana Police Service assisted in cordoning off the area and recovering the victims.

The charred remains of at least three individuals, presumed to be those on board the helicopter, were retrieved from the wreckage.

Mr Ahmed Abdullia, Assemblyman for the Kwesi Plange Electoral Area, confirmed that no students or schoolchildren sustained any injuries despite the crash occurring within the school park premises.

The identity of the victims, the ownership and type of the helicopter, and the exact number of people on board have not yet been officially released. Authorities have yet to disclose the possible cause of the crash.

An investigation is expected to be launched jointly by aviation regulators, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the Police, and other relevant security agencies to establish the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
