Police arrests suspect behind GH¢7.5 million Adabraka robbery in 2024

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the daring daylight robbery of GH¢7.5 million at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, in 2024.

The robbery occurred in November 2024, when armed robbers targeted proceeds from a gold transaction that were being transported to a bank.

Addressing the media at a press conference on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, announced the breakthrough in the case.

The suspect, identified as Salim Mohammed, also known as Fawata (or Fariwata), was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman where he had sought medical treatment. The arrest followed months of intelligence-led operations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mohammed and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 rifles, intercepted the victims’ vehicle, fired shots to disperse onlookers, injured the driver, and made off with the cash.

COP Donkor assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and recover the stolen funds.

The police have described the arrest as a significant step in combating violent crime, with ongoing operations targeting robbery syndicates in the Greater Accra region.
