My service will be more useful in Ayawaso East than Nigeria – Baba Jamal states as he files for NDC primary

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has declared that his decision to vie for the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is rooted in a commitment to service rather than personal gain.

Baba Jamal, one of six aspirants who have picked nomination forms, filed his documents for the NDC primary ahead of the constituency’s by-election scheduled for March 3. The by-election follows the passing of the former Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.

Addressing journalists after submitting his nomination, Baba Jamal urged delegates to evaluate his extensive experience and ability to drive meaningful development in the area.

“Tomorrow, there will be vetting for all the candidates who have presented their documents. Those who think and continue to ask why Baba Jamal is coming back and leaving Nigeria as a High Commissioner to take the title of Honourable. Let me make it clear, my motivation is to serve not materialistic; it is humanism and service to the people,” he stated.

He further explained, “I believe that my service here will be more useful to my people and also to the nation, even more than my service in Nigeria, not because I don’t regard my position in Nigeria. I hold it in high esteem. When duty calls where you are needed more, you need to respond to it.”

Baba Jamal will face competition from Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Ayawaso East MP, along with four other candidates in the NDC primary. The winner will represent the party in the upcoming by-election.
