The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to resist any attempts by aspiring party officials to leverage his name or position to advance their bids for various internal party positions.
In a Facebook post on Monday, February 2, the NPP lawmaker appealed to Dr Bawumia and cautioned against allowing potential contestants to use his stature as the party’s presidential candidate to gain unfair advantage in upcoming party elections.
“Your Excellency, please do not allow any of the potential contestants seeking for the various offices within the party structures to use your name or ride on your current position as the Flagbearer to advance their ambitions,” Kennedy Osei Nyarko wrote.
He emphasised that individuals should campaign and secure their positions based solely on their own merits and strengths, without invoking the flagbearer’s influence.
“People must campaign on their own strength and win their positions,” he added.
The MP further warned Dr Bawumia to be wary of any temptation from candidates who might seek to associate themselves with him to bolster their campaigns.
“Your Excellency please resist any temptation from any potential candidate who may want to use your name to advance their agenda or course,” he stated.
Osei Nyarko concluded that such a stance would ultimately strengthen Dr Bawumia’s own prospects ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“This i believe will help your course better ahead of the 2028 election,” he noted.
The advice comes at a time when the NPP is gearing up for internal restructuring and elections for various party positions following Dr Bawumia’s emergence as flagbearer after the recent presidential primaries.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged winner of the January 31, 2026, flagbearer primaries with over 56% and will be the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election.
