NPP’s Freddie Blay arrested for alleged property destruction

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, has reportedly been arrested in connection with an alleged case of causing damage to property, following a bench warrant issued by the Akropong Circuit Court.

The arrest was effected on Monday, March 16, 2026, after prolonged efforts by the police to apprehend the former national chairman, who had been at large since the warrant was issued.

According to exclusive details available to The1957News, the case is in connection with a complaint lodged on February 1, 2025, by a landowner at Kitase in the Akuapem area.

The complainant, according to police sources, reported discovering damage to an ongoing building project on his parcel of land during a visit on January 31, 2025.

Police investigators subsequently visited the scene and arrested five individuals who were allegedly clearing the land using a backhoe machine.

During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly implicated Freddie Blay and another individual, Nana Osae Ntifo I (also known as Dada), as the persons who instructed them to carry out the destruction. Nana Osae Ntifo I was arrested shortly afterwards near the police station.

However, Freddie Blay, who was invited to assist with investigations, failed to honour the invitation despite promises to report.

On April 24, 2025, Freddie Blay, along with Nana Osae Ntifo I and other suspects, was arraigned before the Akropong Circuit Court, where a bench warrant was issued for Blay’s arrest after he did not appear.

Subsequent attempts by investigators to arrest him at his residence in East Legon proved unsuccessful. Multiple messages were sent to him via various channels in May 2025, but he allegedly did not respond or report.

While efforts continued, one of the co-accused petitioned the Attorney General’s Office and after reviewing the docket, the AG advised the police to proceed with the charges as originally preferred.

On February 5, 2026, the accused persons were formally charged and arraigned, but Freddie Blay still failed to appear.

The bench warrant remained in effect until his arrest today. The former NPP national chairman, who is also a prominent legal practitioner, is expected to be handed over to the Koforidua Police for further action and possible appearance before court.
