Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has recalled the House from recess to sit for five days to consider urgent parliamentary business.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from the Office of the Speaker, Bagbin directed that Parliament reconvene at 12 noon on Monday, August 24, and sit through to Friday, August 28, 2026, at Parliament House in Accra.
“In exercise of the power conferred on the Speaker of Parliament by Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that Parliament shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Monday, at 12 noon of the 24th to Friday the 28th day of August, 2026, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business,” the notice said.
The House adjourned on July 31, 2026. The recall comes less than three weeks into the recess, which was earlier expected to run longer, possibly until October.
The official notice does not detail the specific items of urgent business to be considered.
Members of Parliament have been directed to return to Accra for the five-day sitting.
