Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has pledged to visit Peki Senior High Technical School (PESTECH) after watching a documentary by The1957News detailing the school’s worsening infrastructure and sanitation challenges.

The minister was presented with the documentary during a screening at his office, offering him a firsthand look at the conditions students and staff are currently navigating in their daily school life.

The footage showed, among other concerns, an open enclosure being used as a bathroom for 964 boys, as well as a rudimentary pit latrine covered with logs and screened with mosquito nets.

The documentary also highlighted deteriorating classroom facilities and inadequate furniture in the school’s dining area, raising concerns about the learning environment and the general welfare of students.

As the most troubling scenes unfolded on screen, the minister appeared pensive and was seen occasionally shaking his head in reaction to the gravity of the conditions captured by the investigative team.

PESTECH currently has a student population of 1,131 following the completion of the Form Three cohort, with another intake expected in September.

Following the screening, the minister pledged to visit the school to acquaint himself with the situation firsthand and explore appropriate remedies to the challenges confronting the institution.

The minister’s planned visit follows The1957News’ investigative report, which brought the infrastructure and sanitation challenges at the school into the public spotlight, supported by video evidence from an investigative visit to the institution.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the minister to assess the situation on the ground and determine the appropriate interventions needed to improve conditions for students and staff.
