We didn’t call your leaders extortionists – Ofosu Nkansah to NDC

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has criticised GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi for describing Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin as an “extortionist”.

Mr Ofosu Nkansah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said Mr Gyamfi’s characterisation of the Minority Leader was unwarranted, particularly as Mr Afenyo-Markin and other opposition figures are performing their constitutional role of scrutinising the government and its institutions.

His comments follow a press conference by Mr Afenyo-Markin on Tuesday, August 18, during which he raised concerns about GoldBod’s operations and alleged losses.

Mr Gyamfi, in response, accused the Minority Leader and his associates of engaging in what he described as a “desperate smear campaign” and referred to them as “devious extortionists and political mercenaries”.

He also said Mr Afenyo-Markin’s criticism amounted to attempts to tarnish GoldBod’s reputation and exert pressure on its management.

Reacting in a Facebook post on Thursday, August 20, Mr Ofosu Nkansah questioned why similar criticism was not directed at former NPP Minority Leaders when the party supported them in the past.

“When NPP was supporting your then Minority leaders, no one called them extortionists. After they got the support, they still took on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government,” he said.

He added: “And you People think Sammy Gyamfi is beyond criticism, so you must call our leader names for taking his agency on? You People are not serious. If you are looking for extortionists, look within your Party.”
