Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been remanded into police custody for one week over an alleged death threat against Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
The Dansoman Circuit Court ordered his remand on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when he appeared before the court following his arrest by the Accra Regional Police Command.
Ayitey Powers was arrested on Monday, August 24, after a video circulated on social media in which he is alleged to have threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.
He is expected to reappear before the court on September 2, 2026, as police continue investigations into the matter.
His arrest followed a call by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged comments.
The development comes amid ongoing concerns within Ghana’s boxing fraternity over comments and conduct involving individuals in the sport.
