The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed an attempted arrest of the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, in connection with an ongoing investigation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, EOCO said its officers attempted to arrest the MP as part of lawful steps to secure his attendance after he failed to honour two invitations issued in February 2026.
According to EOCO, the situation escalated during the attempted arrest, prompting its officers to withdraw after assessing that further action could endanger public safety.
The Office said it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, including video footage circulating on social media, to determine its next steps.
EOCO further acknowledged that Mr Baffour Awuah subsequently proceeded to the precincts of Parliament, which is currently on recess, to seek sanctuary.
The anti-graft agency said it recognises and respects the constitutional privileges and immunities of Members of Parliament and would conduct its operations in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws.
It, however, stressed that membership of Parliament does not, by itself, bring an investigation to an end or place an individual beyond the reach of the law.
EOCO said the investigation remains active.
