Black Maidens thrash Côte d’Ivoire 4-0 to finish WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup in second place

Ghana’s Black Maidens rounded off their WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday.

Nana Joe Adarkwa’s side finished the tournament with four wins from five matches, with their only defeat coming against Nigeria.

Seidatu Wahab opened the scoring for Ghana in the 14th minute, converting from the penalty spot to give the Maidens an early lead.

Ghana continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute through Gloria Ameaa.

The Black Maidens maintained control after the break before adding two more goals to complete a comprehensive victory.

Cynthia Obinsrewuo found the net in the 86th minute as Ghana sealed the 4-0 win in Yamoussoukro.

The result saw Ghana finish second in the competition, three points behind champions Nigeria, who maintained a perfect record throughout the tournament.

The Black Maidens’ only defeat came in a 4-2 loss to Nigeria at the Lycée Scientifique.

As part of the tournament’s player development programme, the team also participated in a post-match penalty shootout following the encounter.
