Ghana Airports boss sues NPP activist Samuel Bryan Buabeng for GH¢10m over alleged defamatory posts
Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare has filed a GH¢10 million defamation suit against former Presidential Staffer and New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, Samuel Bryan Buabeng over social media publications she says falsely linked her to alleged narcotics trafficking, corruption and abuse of office.
The legal action follows a September 22, 2026, post published by Buabeng on his publicly accessible Facebook page, which featured Opare’s name and photograph alongside that of Frank Danquah, a GACL employee.
According to Opare’s lawyers, the publication described Danquah as her “favourite member of staff” and alleged that he was an AVSEC supervisor who aided a “drug baron”. The post also alleged that Danquah had emptied bank accounts containing more than GH¢500,000 and referred to a “Cocainenomy” involving people in high places.
In a cease-and-desist letter to Buabeng, Opare’s lawyers said the publication created an impression that their client had an improper association with Danquah and was connected to or benefited from alleged narcotics-related activities. They described the claims as allegations of criminal involvement, corruption and abuse of office, which Opare “categorically denies and rejects”.
The lawyers further stated that Danquah joined GACL on September 1, 2004, and has no personal connection with Opare beyond their respective official roles. Opare has also rejected the description of Danquah as her “favourite member of staff” and maintains that she neither participated in nor benefited from any alleged criminal activity.
In addition to the GH¢10 million claim, Opare is seeking the removal of the September 22 publication and other posts containing the alleged defamatory claims, an unconditional retraction, an unreserved public apology and a written undertaking that the allegations will not be repeated. The suit has been filed at the Accra High Court.
