The Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on Tuesday, Feb 21, at the Police National Headquarters, handed over one hundred (100) pick-up vehicles, six hundred (600) motorbikes, and six (6) Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicles to the Ghana Police Service as well as commissioned the National Police Headquarters facelift project.

He stated that the Ghana Police Service plays a vital role not only in government but also in the lives and safety of the citizens, therefore there’s a necessity to provide their commitment with resources geared towards the smooth running of their activities which are mostly aimed at protecting and providing security and safety for all.

“It is borne out of the fact that the Police plays a critical role in the development of our country, hence the need to ensure that the Police Service is adequately resourced to discharge its duties for the safety and security of all of us, as well as for the growth of economic growth”.

According to Prez Nana Addo, the one hundred (100) pickup vehicles, six hundred (600) motorbikes and six (6) Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) are to be used by the Formed Police Units (FPC) in all the sixteen (16) regions here in Ghana.

Previously, the Formed Police Units (FPC) were stationed in Accra only. However, through the Government’s efforts, the units stretched out to the Ashanti Region’s capital town Kumasi and to the subsequent regions respectively.

“All the regions across the country are soon going to benefit from the services of this specialized unit”.

He said that “These Regional FPUs will be spread across one hundred and forty (140) bases in the various communities in all the regions”.

Mr. Akuffo-Addo was convinced and assured that these provisions made to the Police Service will undoubtedly enhance security, law, and order in the various communities and the country at large.
