Twelve people drowned yesterday in Faana- Bortianor after the Boat conveying them capsized in the river.
8 dead bodies have been found so far with one injured after the boat drowned yesterday at Faana – Bortianor in the Ga South Municipality.
An eyewitness who was onboard the canoe explained, they needed to cross to the other side with a canoe from school at 5:49 pm . The available canoe however was full, but the rider called them to join on board as he wasn’t going to return to convey them. The canoe capsized with all passengers drowning but she held on to the canoe and was rescued.
Members of the community have lamented the creation of the artificial canal which has caused this tragedy and are calling on the government to build a school in the community
NAMDO hasn’t attended to the situation in the community as it stands and members of the community have held a meeting to decided on compensation terms from the government at the tragedy could have been avoided.
