The National Democratic Congress’ Presidential and Parliamentary primaries held 13 May, 2023 witnessed some Incumbent MPs losing their ticket to contest in the 2024 general elections.
The Primaries conducted at the various voting centres with over 355,000 delegates casted their votes to determine the Party’s Presidential candidate an also within their various constituencie.
At the end, others retained and others lost. Among the incumbents who lost was Dela Sowah, MP for Kpando, lost to Sebastian Fred Deh with 281 votes. Mr Deh won the candidacy with 332 votes.
South Tongu MP, Wisdom Kobena Woyome lost to Maxwell Kwame Lukutor. Mr Woyome polled 562 while Mr Lukutor had 597 votes.
Edward Bawa, MP for Bongo also lost his bid to represent the party in the 2024 elections. He lost to Charles Bawaduah with 509 votes. Mr Bawaduah polled 535 votes
MP for Sagnarigu, A.B.A Fuseini lost to a first time contender Attah Issah who polled 801 votes as against A.B.A Fuseini’s 330 votes.
Angela Alorwu-Tay, MP for Afadzato South, also lost her bid to retain her candidacy as she polled 225 votes, losing to her contender, Frank Afriyie who won with 631 votes
.Pru East MP, Dr Kwabena Donkor has also lost his bid. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam beat the incumbent MP with 474 votes.
In Bia West, the incumbent MP Augustine Tawiah lost to Mustapha Amadu Tanko. Mr Tanko won with 935 votes, while Mr Tawiah polled 452 votes.
MP for Navrongo, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia also lost his bid to contest again in 2024. He lost with 447 votes to Simon Akibange Aworigo, who won with 475 votes.
The most looked out for elections in the Sekyere Afram plains Constituency shocked Ghanaians as Hajia Afrah Nasirah toppled incumbent Dr. Alex Adomako Mensah, Dr. Kwabena Duffour’s Brother and his son.
Incumbent Wisdom Gidisu lost with 257 votes to his main opponent Nelson Kofi Djabab, won with 441 votes in the Krachi East Constituency.
The party heads to the General elections in 2024 with these new comers as they face main opposition the NPP who are bent on breaking the 8
