A young man, believed to be in his early 20s, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly stealing phones from students at the Accra Technical University (ATU).

The incident, which occurred at the campus of (ATU) during the early hours of Friday, July 7, 2023, triggered a number of students to recount their observation of the alleged thief’s movement in the school.

In a brief interview with a student and a witness, she revealed that the alleged thief has been disguising himself as a student and a visitor for quite a while. She continued to state that, about a month ago today, a total of thirteen (13) iPhones and a laptop were recorded as missing.

This, however, intrigued a number of the students to monitor his moves due to the rate at which stuff gets lost whenever he visits a room.

“A lot of the occupants have been complaining about their phones getting missing. He’s been visiting several rooms. One might think he’s a student. About 13 iPhones and 1 top have been stolen within a period of one year. It’s quite unfortunate that he was unlucky today. His cup is full.” she said.

As a usual routine, the alleged thief, whose name remains unknown, visited one of the rooms in the school’s new hostel to allegedly steal phones. Unfortunately for him, he was caught in the act. Therefore, in an attempt to run away, he was unluckily caught at the hostel’s entrance, where he was sent to a room to be interviewed. Upon revealing he was a thief, the Police were called.

Moreover, a Porter was also arrested by the police for allegedly slapping a student who tried to beat up the culprit. The Porter and the alleged thief have been sent to an undisclosed police station in Accra to be investigated.
