OkadaMotto, in collaboration with the State Transport Company (STC), has launched a five-day motorcycle training program for 100 riders in Greater Accra.

The training, which begins today, February 24, is being held at the STC Driver Training School in Accra and aims to equip okada riders with formal skills to enhance road safety and reduce motorcycle-related accidents.

The program consists of seven key modules: Road Signs and Highway Codes, Causes and Prevention of Accidents, Traffic Regulations, Effective Operations (including Speed Limits), Motor Inspection, Customer Care, and Practical Sessions. Upon completion on February 28, 2025, participants will receive certificates.

Speaking to the media, Ras Mubarak, Founding partner of OkadaMotto and former Member of Parliament Kumbungu Central, emphasized the urgent need for this initiative due to the alarming rate of road accidents.

“We have observed with deep concern the rising number of road accidents, many of which involve motorcycles. This initiative, in partnership with STC and other stakeholders, is our contribution to improving road safety by ensuring riders receive structured training,” he stated.

Beyond training, OkadaMotto has also launched and piloted a ride-hailing app for motorbikes, the Catapult App, in Liberia with government support. The app has since expanded to Sierra Leone and is now operational in Ghana.

Mubarak urged trainees to take the lessons seriously and exhibit discipline and professionalism to distinguish themselves from other riders. He also revealed ongoing discussions with the DVLA on introducing a demerit point system to regulate reckless riding and enhance safety on Ghana’s roads.

OkadaMotto is a motorcycle ride-hailing app offering instant bookings, real-time tracking, and secure payment options for passengers. Its mission is to improve the safety, efficiency, and convenience of motorcycle taxi transportation across Africa.
