I won’t renew the Zoomlion contract in its current form – Malik Basintale

Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has taken a firm stance against the renewal of the agency’s contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited if payment of Zoomlion workers remain GH¢250 a month.

Despite public outcry, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation has dismissed calls to terminate the agreement, citing fears of mass unemployment.

Basintale’s displeasure with the meager earnings of the workers follows remarks made earlier this week, by the group’s chairman Joseph Siaw Agyepong, justifying the provision made as payment to these sanitation workers.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Basintale reaffirmed his stance, stressing that integrity and fair pay for Ghanaian youth remain his top priorities. He also referenced former President John Mahama’s “reset agenda,” calling for just and decent compensation across board.

“I promise on my honour, as I stand by my late father’s grave, that I will NOT renew this contract in its current state. It is WRONG for any government to sign off on this, and I intend to put a stop to it,” he wrote.

Basintale has invited the public to a Facebook Live session at 8 pm tonight to share their thoughts and discuss what lies ahead.
