Sammy Gyamfi declares SML-Goldbod partnership as fake news

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has debunked a news item as misinformation, refuting claims that the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has partnered with GoldBod to sanitize Ghana’s gold sector.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he labeled the reports as a “FAKE NEWS ALERT,” stating categorically that GoldBod has no contractual relationship with SML and that such claims are entirely false.

“FAKE NEWS ALERT:
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has no dealings, contract, partnership, or relationship whatsoever with SML. Any such claim is completely false and should be treated with utmost contempt,” he wrote.

Earlier yesterday, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) also clarified that it had not instructed SML to activate or resume operations under the 2023 Consolidated Revenue Assurance Services Contract, which covers sectors including gold.

This clarification follows several publications in the print media and online platforms that praised SML’s supposed five-year performance in Ghana’s downstream sector.
