President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has fully recovered and will return to Ghana before the end of next week to resume her official duties.
He made this announcement during his preliminary remarks at the Greater Accra Region edition of the “Thank You Tour” in Dodowa.
“I bring you greetings from Her Excellency the Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. I’m happy to report that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of next week. By God’s grace, she has fully recovered and is ready to return to her duties,” he stated.
This update follows a similar reassurance he gave during the launch of the free sanitary pad initiative and serves to dispel unverified reports circulating on social media regarding the Vice President’s health.
One such claim was made by an individual identified as Mohammed Zakou, who was granted bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties by the Achimota Circuit Court on Monday, April 14, 2025. Zakou had posted the vice president’s image on Facebook with the caption, “Rest well, Your Excellency,” sparking public concern and speculation.
The Vice President is currently on a three-week medical leave in the United Kingdom, where she has been resting and receiving treatment.
She reportedly fell ill on March 28, 2025, shortly after discharging her official duties. Following initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), arrangements were made for her to travel abroad for further medical attention.
