OkadaMotto Ride-Hailing app officially launched in Accra

A motorcycle ride-hailing app, OkadaMotto, was successfully launched today, May 29, 2025, marking the operationalization of regulated commercial motorcycle transport—commonly known as Okada.

The launch, held at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, was attended by the CEO of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, and the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey.

Operating within the Ghanaian jurisdiction, OkadaMotto becomes the third of its kind after successful launches in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Ras Mubarak, founding partner of OkadaMotto and former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Central, encouraged the first cohort of trainees to maintain professionalism.

He urged them to dress well, noting, “This is your office,” and advised against wearing slippers. He also called on them to encourage more women to join the initiative.

In his address, Osman Ayariga, CEO of the National Youth Authority, expressed concern over the low female participation in the program.

“I thought I would see 50% women and 50% men, but I’m seeing only men who want to ride or apply for OkadaMotto. So, Mr. CEO, please make sure more women are included in the Okada training,” he said.

Earlier in February 2025, OkadaMotto, in partnership with the State Transport Company (STC), launched a five-day motorcycle training program for 100 riders in the Greater Accra Region. The program was designed to equip Okada riders with formal skills to enhance road safety and reduce motorcycle-related accidents.

The training covered core areas such as road signs and highway codes, causes and prevention of accidents, traffic regulations, effective operations (including speed limits), motor inspection, customer care, and practical sessions. The program concluded on February 28, 2025, and participants were awarded certificates of completion.

OkadaMotto is a motorcycle ride-hailing app that offers instant bookings, real-time tracking, and secure payment options. Its mission is to improve the safety, efficiency, and convenience of motorcycle taxi transportation across Africa.
