I was confident you would win, but didn’t expect such a wide margin – DormaaHene to Mahama on 2024 elections

The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, has expressed his initial expectation for President Mahama to win the 2024 elections but admitted being surprised by the overwhelming margin of votes the President secured.

He made this statement during his address to the President at the “Thank You Tour” in the Bono Region. The Chief described President Mahama’s victory as a historic milestone, marking one of the most significant electoral triumphs in the nation’s history.

While addressing concerns about potential electoral violence in 2024, Osagyefo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II emphasized his confidence in the peaceful nature of Ghanaians. “Although some sections of the public feared violence that could jeopardize our peace, I always maintained that Ghanaians are peace-loving people,” he remarked.

The Chief noted that Article 276(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which prohibits Chiefs from engaging in active party politics, restrained him from publicly endorsing President Mahama. However, he acknowledged silently believing in the President’s victory.

“Every four years, Ghana goes to the polls to elect a President. In 2024, there were fears of violence, but as I always say, Ghanaians love peace. For someone to win an election so overwhelmingly, I haven’t seen anything like it before. While I was confident you would win, the magnitude of your victory exceeded my expectations,” he added.

Osagyefo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II also commended President Mahama for appointing key individuals from the Bono Region to his government, including the  Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs in Ghana, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Ernest Asiedu Odami – Director, Corporate Planning, PMMC.

He expressed optimism about the President’s commitment to further development in the region and encouraged his people to remain patient.

“I don’t want anyone from Bono to murmur about development. We have Lordina, and with her influence, we are assured of progress. Let us trust the President to deliver,” he assured.

He concluded by requesting the appointment of additional individuals from the Bono Region in the President’s final list of appointees.
