Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Marketing Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has declared that the GoldBod Taskforce will be relentless in its fight against gold smuggling, vowing to ensure that every gold smuggler is put behind bars.
He made the bold statement while addressing members of the taskforce after a brief training session with the National Security . His address comes ahead of the official launch of the Taskforce scheduled for July 8, 2025.
“We will not rest until every gold smuggler is behind bars. The Gold Board is a very critical state agent for the economic recovery of our country. How you do your work will directly impact the livelihoods of our people and the strength of our national currency.” Mr. Gyamfi said.
His comments comes after the arrest of ten Chinese nationals suspected of being involved in illegal gold trading in the Western Region. The operation, carried out by the GoldBod Taskforce in conjunction with national security operatives, intercepted the suspects while they were transporting unaccounted-for gold through unauthorized channels.
Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama is fully aware of the operations and remains committed to supporting the broader mission of protecting Ghana’s gold resources and clamping down on economic sabotage.
He urged members of the taskforce to treat their assignment as a national calling, noting that their work directly affects the future of Ghanaian families and the stability of the cedi.
“The wellbeing of our people, my children and yours, depends on your work. You are at the frontline of protecting Ghana’s gold and Ghana’s future,” he added.
The taskforce is expected to scale up operations across key gold-producing regions in the coming weeks, with increased surveillance and enforcement actions aimed at dismantling smuggling networks.
The anti-gold smuggling taskforce, spearheaded by GoldBod and the National Security Secretariat, is a key component of the Mahama administration’s renewed focus on resource governance and economic revitalization.
