Lothar Herbert Mathaus, 1990 World Cup winner including two other partners have reportedly bought Ghanaian based Premier League team Accra Lions.

The Ex-West Germany captain who led his team to lifting the 1990 World Cup according to reports have bought the Premier Division club Accra Lions which is valued around £2m. However the financial investment made by the ex-Dortmund player has not been divulged.

He has mentioned that he shares the commitment with former player agent Oliver König from Frankfurt and Ghanaian professional footballer Frank Acheampong.

He lauded  the potential of Ghanaian based players and has stated his intention of investing and transferring well trained young players to Europe.

” Of course, it’s a business model. Ghana has always had a huge potential of talent, you can see that in the national team. We want to bring young players to Europe. In a serious way and already well trained. That’s why we’re investing in the training ground here.” He mentioned to Build newspaper.

After retiring, Matthäus worked as a trainer in Austria, Serbia and Montenegro, Brazil and Israel from 2001 to 2011. In the meantime he was also national coach in Hungary and Bulgaria. He is currently working as an expert for the pay-TV channel Sky.ed.

Lothar Matthäus gehört nun gemeinsam mit Partnern ein Fußballklub der Premier League in Ghana. Beim Accra Lions FC trifft er auf einen alten Bekannten aus der Bundesliga. https://t.co/mFLNTnOl8r
