The National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has made allegations against the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for the Assin North Constituency By-election, Charles Opoku, by calling him a “Political prostitute” and claiming he requested to contest on the ticket of the NDC.

The Assin North Constituency by-election is underway as both Parliamentary candidates of the two dominant political parties, the NDC and NPP, James Gyakye Quayson and Charles Opoku, respectively, have visited the polling stations.

James Gyakye Quayson, whose name was expunged from parliament’s record following an order by the Supreme Court due to his dual citizenship at the time of filing for nominations into the 2020 general elections, casted his ballot not long ago, and Sammy Gyamfi was his spokesperson.

Sammy Gyamfi termed the NPP’s candidate, Charles Opoku, a “Political Prostitute”, claiming he approached the NDC for Gyakye Quayson to be dropped and rather appoint him to run on the ticket of the NDC in the by -election.

However, the party denied that request, stating that the NDC does not conduct its affairs in that manner, hence he should join the queue.

Sammy Gyamfi claimed he has WhatsApp chats with the NDC executives, which are testimony to the allegations he has made about the candidate in question.

He further draped the candidate in underestimating words, naming him as a candidate with “No principle, no conviction, no track record. He doesn’t even vote here, and he wants to be an MP. Let’s leave it to the good people of Assin North to decide” he said.

He then emphasized the inevitably of choosing Gyakye Quayson to run on the party’s ticket, buttressing his point with previous vote analytics.

“We could not have gotten any better option. Since this constituency was created in 2012, the parliamentary candidate who has amassed the most votes in any election from 2012 till now is him, 17,500 votes.  It is more than any other candidate. It is more than any presidential candidates own. He is the most popular person from Assin North. You can see the love for him. We are happy, we are excited that we have somebody like Gyakye Quayson leading our campaign.” He stated.

He reassured the public of the victory of the NDC in the by-election and judged the intimidation and vote buying tactics of the NPP to fall through.

“By the time we end, you will see the love. The intimidation, the sharing of money will all go waste. Whom God has blessed is blessed.”

The most anticipated Assin North by-election, has witnessed camping messages and counter statements from President Nana Akufo Addo and Ex- President John Dramani Mahama on the criminality of Gyakye Quayson’s dial citizenship in relation to the by-election.

The Assin North seat was declared vacant by Parliament’s Clerk on May 30 following the Supreme Court’s unanimous verdict for Gyakye Quayson’s name to be expunged. The constituency therefore heads into a by-election according to the Constitution Article 112(5).
