Berla Mundi’s B.You Campus tour returns with a bang!

Ace broadcast journalist and PR consultant, Berla Mundi, returns bigger and better with the B.You University campus tour initiative this year which is already garnering notable attention and enthusiasm from students and relevant stakeholders across the nation.

The initiative aims to empower and educate students on various aspects of personal and career development and provide insightful sessions and engaging activities for students across various Universities in the country and other relevant stakeholders involved.

As the founder of the initiative, Berla Mundi seeks to provide guidance and support in career development projects for students, providing network opportunities as well as serving as a role model by demonstrating leadership qualities for these students to emulate.

The opening campus tour this year kicked off at Ashesi University on 12th July, on the theme “Nurturing your career through powerful branding,” which received a lot of anticipation and positive reception from students and all stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Berla Mundi, founder of the B.You project said that it is essential to engage students with personal branding and career development because it addresses how they can purposefully cultivate their professional identities to enhance career growth and opportunities.

“Growing up, it is essential that you understand how to brand yourself early, even in school to help you build a strong professional identity which helps to advance your career after school and makes you confident.”

Berla stated that in pursuing career development, it is essential that students are professional in their activities when they get into the professional world and present a consistent image of themselves, either on social media, physical spaces or professional spaces. This, she reiterates, “builds trust and authenticity in professional spaces which can shoot up and establish their career.”

Addressing the challenges faced in career development and personal branding, Berla touched on the fact that certain individuals are purposefully placed in our lives to challenge us, do and say certain things that emanates discomfort, however, this discomfort ultimately brings about growth. This, she further explained, means challenges can facilitate personal and professional growth, pushing individuals to be better and do better.

“There are people who are close to you and will never compliment you. You need to be discerning to notice that there will always be people like that. Such people are meant to do this to keep you up on your toes and get you out of your comfort zone to let you know that there is more to life. There are people who will always give you negative feedback about the things you do. You might get angry about the feedback you get sometimes but the best thing to do is figure out the good out of it and use that to build and develop yourself and your brand.”

“Sometimes, people are meant to be in your life for short periods, others for long period. Regardless of this, do not take people for granted. Sometimes it is difficult and a painful process to leave certain people and go out there to chase your career goals. It is difficult, but you realize you cannot take them along. You cannot take them where you are going in life, so best thing is to let them go in order to achieve your career goals and development.”

Speaking on the use o social media, she advised young people to strategically use social media in developing themselves and their personal brands. She reiterated that young people should harness the power of social media and use it to their maximum advantage.

“Don’t just be on Tik Tok and other social media platforms and be scrolling for hours. Use social media wisely to your advantage. It is a powerful tool for networking, personal branding, and knowledge sharing so take full advantage of it.”

After engaging with students from Ashesi University, Berla and the B.You team embarked on the next tour to the  Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) College of Education at Asokore-Koforidua on 17th July, 2024. This, was under the theme, “Future-Ready: Empowering you for tomorrow’s opportunities.”

During the interaction, Berla reiterated that it is essential for young people to build their career and brand themselves to enhance progression in their careers. She advised students to pursue their passion and pay no attention to anything that will deprive them of reaching their professional and career goals.

Ghanaian online journalist Kobby Kyei, who was also one of the resource persons for this particular tour shared some nuggets on essentials on working on one’s mindset in developing careers.

He stated that working on the mindset brings about resilience which helps people bounce back from setbacks and challenges, which are bound to happen in any career journey, adding that, this can help them to see challenges as opportunities for growth. This “propels career development,” he added.

After the engagement, some students gave feedbacks and essentially touched on the fact that they were inspired with campus tour and Berla’s submissions on the need to brand themselves to bring about career development. This, they revealed, have left them in a reflective state and help them make better choices with regard to their various professional careers.

The B.You campus tour bus may be on your campus sooner than you think! Don’t be left out of the revived campus tour experience. Cheers!
