The vetting of Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which was scheduled for today, Tuesday, August 25, has been postponed to Thursday, August 27.
Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle in the Greater Accra Region, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
Her vetting forms part of Parliament’s consideration of the President’s recent ministerial nominations following the House’s recall from recess for a five-day sitting to address urgent parliamentary business.
When Parliament resumed on Monday, August 24, Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin referred the President’s ministerial nominees to the Appointments Committee for consideration and approval.
If approved by Parliament, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings will assume responsibility for the Environment, Science and Technology portfolio following the death of the substantive minister, Murtala Mohammed.
President Mahama also nominated Bawku Central MP and outgoing Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Meanwhile, Banda MP and former Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has been moved to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, while Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who previously served at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence.
The Appointments Committee is expected to assess Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings’ competence, experience and suitability for the Environment, Science and Technology portfolio before making its recommendation to the House.
