The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says it is working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring Manhyia South Member of Parliament (MP), Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, before a weekend court.

The announcement follows the MP’s voluntary surrender to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest and authorised the agency to search for and seize documents relevant to its investigation.

In a news release dated Friday, October 2, EOCO said Baffour Awuah was cooperating with investigators as the Office continued with the necessary investigative, procedural and operational processes.

“Mindful of the applicable constitutional timeframes and procedural requirements governing bail, the Office is fervently working with the Office of the Attorney-General to bring the Suspect before a weekend court,” EOCO said.

The MP reported himself to the anti-graft agency at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, following the arrest warrant issued by the High Court on September 30. He was subsequently placed under arrest as investigations continued.

EOCO is investigating allegations involving Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences. The allegations remain under investigation.

The investigation is linked to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited. The High Court also authorised EOCO to search the MP’s office and other premises for documents considered relevant to the investigation.

EOCO also used its latest statement to reject reports that the MP had been granted GH¢50 million bail.

“The Office also wishes to urge the public to disregard media reports that the Office has granted the Suspect a GHC50 million bail,” it said.

The MP has previously disputed EOCO’s account of its efforts to secure his attendance, saying earlier correspondence concerned his work as senior partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, the law firm that represented SIC Life Savings and Loans.

EOCO has maintained that it had invited him twice in February and that it subsequently obtained the arrest warrant after efforts to secure his voluntary attendance were unsuccessful.
