Four Customs officers interdicted over 18-truck transit cargo diversion case

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has confirmed that 18 trucks intercepted in February 2026 over suspected transit cargo diversion were carrying goods declared under false documentation.

Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong speaking during  a press conference on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, disclosed that four Customs officers who worked on the consignment have been interdicted as part of ongoing internal disciplinary processes.

He said the investigation found that the cargo, declared as transit goods from Togo through the Akanu border post to Niger, was originally imported from Malaysia and Indonesia and was destined for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The GRA said its investigations involved a review of transit documents, statements from customs officers, drivers, escort officers and other stakeholders, as well as inspections at relevant customs points in Ghana and Togo.

The Authority added that it found links between some companies connected to the consignment and previous transactions involving irregular transit movements.

The confiscated consignment has since been allocated to the National School Feeding Programme following a directive from the Ministry of Finance, while the GRA maintains that measures are being strengthened to prevent transit fraud and protect state revenue.
