High Court grants EOCO warrant to arrest Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah

An Accra High Court has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The warrant follows an application by EOCO, which told the court that its officers had exhausted reasonable means of securing the legislator’s voluntary attendance in connection with investigations into alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.

According to a report by 3News, EOCO also expressed concerns that documents relevant to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed, prompting its request for authority to arrest the MP and search for and seize relevant documents.

The development comes a week after EOCO officials attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court Complex on September 23.

EOCO said the attempted arrest followed two invitations issued to the MP in February. The MP, however, has maintained that the invitations were addressed to him in his capacity as Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, the law firm engaged by SIC Life to recover funds.

He has said a representative of the firm subsequently cooperated with EOCO on three occasions and submitted a written statement on April 30, 2026.

At the centre of the investigation is an investment of about GH¢3.5 million by SIC Life Savings and Loans with the defunct Equity Savings and Loans, which Mr Baffour Awuah says had grown to about GH¢14 million with interest after the investment was not repaid.

EOCO has not publicly detailed its specific allegations against the MP. Reports have, however, indicated that investigators are examining claims involving a 15 percent legal fee arrangement and alleged payments linked to the then management of SIC Life.
