Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Indian diaspora in Ghana, describing their reception as a reflection of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

“Gladdened by the incredible warmth shown by the Indian community here in Accra, Ghana. The spirit of togetherness and the deep cultural linkages are truly wonderful,” Prime Minister Modi shared in a statement as he arrived in Ghana for a landmark state visit.

The visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation across critical sectors.
The diplomatic visit will focus on talks between the two governments which will centre on agriculture, health, defence cooperation, and the establishment of a joint commission. A key focus will also be placed on positioning Ghana as a vaccine hub for the African continent.

In recognition of his leadership and India’s significant contributions to Ghana’s development, Prime Minister Modi is set to be conferred with Ghana’s highest state honour, the Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana, by President John Dramani Mahama.

The award will be presented during a state banquet at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.

With this distinction, Modi will join a celebrated list of global figures, including former French President Jacques Chirac, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, and Kenya’s President William Ruto, who have all received the prestigious honour.

India and Ghana share over six decades of diplomatic ties rooted in South- South cooperation, mutual respect, and vibrant cultural exchanges. Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to open new chapters in a relationship built on shared democratic values and economic potential.
