A confrontation involving Manhyia South Member of Parliament and private legal practitioner, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, and persons identified as officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) occurred at the High Court Complex in Accra on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The incident followed proceedings in the bail application of Salomey Awity Baffoe, whom Baffour Awuah represents in the ongoing case involving the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
Videos circulating online show the MP engaging a woman said to be leading the group identified as EOCO personnel.
During the exchange, Baffour Awuah is heard saying that EOCO had written to his office to invite him, indicating that he was prepared to follow the officials in his own vehicle.
The situation subsequently escalated as the MP attempted to enter his Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, with the woman and others engaging him in a scuffle around the vehicle.
Baffour Awuah eventually entered the vehicle and drove away from the court premises.
A pickup truck believed to be carrying the alleged EOCO personnel was also seen following the MP’s vehicle, with the situation subsequently developing into another confrontation involving some bystanders and supporters who had accompanied the lawmaker and persons said to be EOCO officials.
The circumstances surrounding the reported invitation by EOCO and the reason the officials sought to engage the MP remain unclear.
Multiple reports indicate that the woman had blocked Baffour Awuah’s vehicle before the exchange became physical.
The reports further allege that purported EOCO personnel attempted to engage the MP, describing the incident as having turned physical.
The incident occurred shortly after the High Court adjourned Salomey Baffoe’s bail application to Thursday, September 24, following a request by the prosecution for additional time to respond to the application.
Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, in connection with alleged content circulated through the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account. She has pleaded not guilty.
Baffour Awuah has rejected aspects of the prosecution’s allegations against his client, including claims that she received money from the alleged operator of the account to support the publication and distribution of online content.
As of publication, there had been no official statement from EOCO confirming the identity of the persons involved in the confrontation or explaining the reported invitation extended to the MP.
