Fuel prices at the pumps are expected to record marginal increases from Tuesday, September 1, 2026, according to projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC).
The projected increases are expected to affect petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with COPEC attributing the adjustments largely to movements in international petroleum product prices.
According to COPEC’s assessment of the current pricing window, petrol is projected to sell at an average price of GH¢16.21 per litre.
The projected price represents an estimated 5 percent increase over the current mean pump price of GH¢15.43 per litre.
Diesel is also projected to increase to approximately GH¢17.61 per litre, representing an estimated 2.58 percent rise from the current mean price of GH¢17.17 per litre.
LPG is similarly expected to record a marginal increase, with COPEC projecting a price of approximately GH¢14.19 per kilogramme.
International market, cedi movements
COPEC’s projections come despite a marginal decline in global crude oil prices during the current pricing window.
The chamber said crude oil prices fell from $90.41 per barrel to $89.30 per barrel over the period.
The Ghana cedi, meanwhile, appreciated against the US dollar during the same period.
COPEC said the average interbank exchange rate improved from $1 to GH¢11.800 at the beginning of the pricing window to $1 to GH¢11.5166 at its close.
This represents an appreciation of approximately 2.39 percent.
Despite the stronger cedi and the marginal decline in crude oil prices, COPEC said changes in the Free-On-Board (FOB) prices of refined petroleum products are expected to exert upward pressure on pump prices.
If oil marketing companies adjust their prices in line with the prevailing market conditions, motorists and other consumers could therefore pay more for petroleum products from the beginning of September.
The projected adjustments will be reflected in the next petroleum pricing window, with the actual pump prices depending on the pricing decisions of individual oil marketing companies.
