The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has launched its Member Value Programme, an initiative aimed at providing contributors with immediate benefits through discounts on goods and services while they continue to save towards retirement.
Speaking after the launch on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Director-General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney, said the programme was developed to ensure that members enjoy tangible benefits before retirement. He explained that although SSNIT remains committed to providing long-term income security for Ghanaian workers, the Trust considered it equally important to create opportunities for contributors to benefit from their membership today.
According to him, the initiative leverages SSNIT’s large membership base of more than 2.1 million contributors to negotiate discounts with partner businesses. He noted that the Trust approached retail outlets and service providers with the collective purchasing power of its members, encouraging them to offer preferential prices in exchange for access to a large customer base.
“The power of our membership enables us to negotiate benefits for contributors. We tell businesses that this is the clientele we can bring to them, and in return, they provide discounts for our members,” he said.
Under the programme, members will enjoy reduced prices at selected retail outlets, pharmacies and healthcare facilities, including partner clinics. The Director-General said the initiative is expected to help contributors reduce their day-to-day expenses, particularly on essential goods and healthcare services.
He added that the programme reflects SSNIT’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of contributors by complementing its core mandate of providing retirement income security with practical, everyday benefits.
The Member Value Programme forms part of SSNIT’s efforts to enhance the value of membership and strengthen engagement with contributors by extending benefits beyond pension payments.
