Hon. Henry Quartey, Greater

The Greater Accra regional minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, has threatened that as part of the region’s coordinating council’s initiative, they will arrest unauthorized persons who clamp their vehicles on the streets of Accra without any legal permit.

While engaging with private firms on June 9, 2022, monitored by Modernghana News, Mr. Quartey, who doubles as the chairman of the regional coordinating council (RCC), ordered the immediate halt to the clamping of vehicles in the city by private entities without authorization and ordered that they go to their respective assemblies for a permit before they engage in such an act.

“The Regional Coordinating Council is directing that with immediate effect, all clamping in the Central Business District in Accra stops, and we are saying it takes effect now. The firms are to come with their documents to the respective assemblies. Anybody found clamping or enforcing traffic regulations should be arrested by the police.” He said.

He also added that there will be the establishment of a committee involving representatives from the National Road Safety Authority, Municipal Assemblies, and the Ghana Police Service who, by the Assembly’s bye-laws, will engage the services of private firms in doing traffic enforcement.

“A committee will be formed immediately which will involve the National Road Safety Authority, Ghana Police Service, and a rep from the assemblies to look at the bye-laws that give them authority to engage the services of the private firms to do traffic enforcement. We think that it should be properly coordinated in consultation with the Ghana Police Service to provide training to these entities”, he illustrated.
