Three men have been sentenced to life imprisonment over the death of the late American rapper XXX Tentacion by Broward County judge.
The suspects identified as Michael Boatwright, 28, Dedrick Williams, 26, and Trayvon Newsome, 24, were found guilty of first-degree murder and armed robbery last month and have been subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy the top-charting rapper famously known as XXX Tentacion was killed on June 18, 2018, in Florida on his return from Riva Motorsports after he suffered gun wounds from a robbery. The shooters fled the scene and he was later pronounced dead in the hospital.
Prosecutors linked the robbers to surveillance footage. In the footage, XXX Tentacion’s BMW car was blocked by an SUV vehicle and two masked men approached the driver’s window and one shot him repeatedly. They grabbed his Louis Vuitton bag which contained money he had withdrawn from the bank and they sped off in their SUV vehicle.
Boatwright was identified as the primary shooter and Newsome was accused of being the other gunman. Williams was accused of driving the SUV and a former friend of the rapper, Robert Allen, was accused of being inside the vehicle.
Michael Usan Broward County judge made these statements to the convicts after they were found guilty: “You’ll spend every hour and every day and every week and every year of your life in that cell.
“And one day, they’ll come and open up that cell in the morning and you will have passed on, and only on that day, you would’ve served your sentence.
The 20 years rapper topped the charts, especially his single ‘Sad’ which debuted at number 17, becoming his highest-charting song in the United States, and eventually peaked at number 1 after his death before releasing its official music video on June 28.
