The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has declared that it did not receive any correspondence or proposal requesting approval for the organization of the Karnival Kingdom Festival held in Accra recently.

In an official statement dated Thursday, May 7, and signed by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Ministry stated that it did not endorse or authorize the staging of the event. The Ministry noted that it was unaware of the processes through which the festival was purportedly approved to take place in Ghana.

The Ministry also acknowledged the importance of observing the relevant procedures for festive occasions.

“As the supervisory public institution for the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Sector, the Ministry recognizes the importance of adhering to established regulatory procedures and institutional engagements in the organisation of public events, including festivals, in the country,” the statement added.

The Ministry has cautioned that all organizers seeking to stage tourism, cultural, entertainment or public recreational events must officially engage the appropriate state institutions and obtain the required regulatory approvals before undertaking such activities.

The ministry emphasized that the statement is in response to public concerns and discussions regarding the activities involved in the event, particularly some culturally unacceptable materials circulated on social media.

“The Ministry acknowledges the concerns raised by various stakeholders and sections of the public relating to the nature and conduct of the festival,” it added.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to preserving, promoting, and developing tourism and cultural activities that respect the laws of the country and uphold its values, cultural identity, and public decency. It emphasized that Ghana continues to maintain its reputation as a safe and culturally reverent nation.
