The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a special needs student at the school.

The two watchmen have also been handed over to the Police to assist with investigations into the incident.

According to the GES, the student was on medication and suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged assault, requiring medical attention.

It was during this period, the Service said, that the alleged sexual assault occurred.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, the GES said it had taken immediate administrative action by interdicting the two watchmen while the Police conduct further investigations into the matter.

The Service said a thorough investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It added that the outcome of the investigations would determine the appropriate sanctions under the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

The GES has also cautioned all staff to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student.

The Service stressed that it would not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and welfare of students.

“Management cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” the statement added.

Management further assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.
