The Ghana U20 Women’s team, the Black Princesses suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of their USA counterparts in their opening group D fixture in the ongoing U20 World Cup in Costa Rica.

Despite being underdogs heading into the game, the Black Princess were hoping to kickstart the campaign on a right foot with a win against 3 time winners, USA within their sights.

The American’s took an early lead through Michelle Cooper in the 11th minute before Ghanaian midfielder,Jacqueline Owusu was given the marching orders 20 minutes later for a cynical challenge.

Alyssa Thompson doubled the lead for the Americans in the 38th minute to take the game beyond the reach of the Ghanaian side that were down to 10 men.

With the Black Princesses head coach, Ben Fokuo resorting to damage limitation tactics in the second 45, the 3 time winners could only add up to their tally with Allyson Sentnor’s strike proving to be the icing on the cake.

The Black Princesses next game will be against Japan on the 14th of August, 2022 and could be boosted by the return of skipper Doris Boaduwaa who missed the team’s defeat to the USA through injury.
