We must place Ghana above party, tribe and personal interests – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has called on all Ghanaians to place the national interest above political affiliations, tribal loyalties, and personal ambitions, stressing that this is essential for strengthening unity and accelerating the country’s development.

Delivering his national address to mark Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama emphasised that genuine patriotism must be demonstrated through everyday actions by citizens, public officials, and the private sector in protecting national resources and serving with integrity.

“The progress of our country depends on the collective commitment of citizens to put Ghana first,” he said.

He illustrated this principle with practical examples: “True patriotism must be shown through our everyday actions. The citizen who protects public property. The public servant who treats everyone with respect.”

The President also highlighted the important role of the private sector.

”And the entrepreneur who opts to invest his resources in Ghana’s future,” he said.

“Above all, we must place country above party, above tribe, and above personal interest. Citizens, Ghana is bigger than any one of us,” the president added.
