A total of 1,432 victims of human trafficking have received rehabilitation and reintegration support as the government expands interventions to protect survivors of exploitation and abuse.

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the support includes psychosocial care, rehabilitation and assistance aimed at helping survivors rebuild their lives after experiencing trafficking.

She said 181 survivors had received trauma-informed care at shelters, while another 69 had been referred for additional support and services. The Ministry had also provided counselling, legal and financial assistance to 152 survivors of domestic violence.

“For any survivor of sexual or gender-based violence watching today, the Orange Support Center is reachable, toll-free, on 0800 111 222 or by WhatsApp on 055 1755 7575,” Dr Lartey said.

She said government had commissioned a shelter in Accra and supported the establishment of two additional shelters in the Upper West and Eastern Regions. The long-term objective, she said, is to establish a network of shelters across all 16 regions.

Dr Lartey said the interventions were necessary to ensure that survivors have access not only to immediate protection but also to counselling, legal assistance and other services required to rebuild their lives after abuse or exploitation.
