2,000 recruits to commence Ghana Armed Forces training

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has completed the selection of the first batch of 2,000 recruits, who are scheduled to begin training as part of a four-batch recruitment exercise.

In a statement released on Monday, March 17, 2026, Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Arhin, disclosed that the selected individuals are expected to report to their designated selection centres across all 16 regions of the country on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, to collect their appointment letters and recruitment prospectus.

GAF encouraged applicants previously flagged with curable medical conditions during the medical screening phase to seek appropriate treatment, assuring them of a complimentary review opportunity at a later date.

Notably, the first batch includes 18 recruits who were injured in last year’s tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium during a prior recruitment exercise.

In addition, five more individuals have been included following sponsorship by families of victims who lost their lives in the incident.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep appreciation to the 16 Regional Administrations for their invaluable support in decentralising this year’s recruitment process to the regional level, in line with government policy to bring such opportunities closer to prospective applicants.

The military appealed to all remaining applicants to exercise patience, assuring that the selection process for the subsequent batches is actively progressing. GAF noted that it retains a strong reserve of high-scoring candidates from the aptitude tests, which will be drawn upon for the remaining 2026 batches and potentially into future recruitment cycles.

The statement further revealed that consideration is currently being given to a directive for the inclusion of individuals from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region—who rendered critical assistance during last year’s military helicopter crash rescue operation—in the second batch of training.

The Ghana Armed Forces reiterated its commitment to a fair, transparent, and regionally inclusive recruitment drive aimed at strengthening the nation’s defence force.
