24-year-old graduate, 18-year-old arrested for allegedly taking up to GH¢22,000 for SHS placements

A report by twin sisters to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old University of Ghana graduate, Vicentia Appiah Antwi, and 18-year-old unemployed Suzzy Owusu over alleged fraud involving the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

The two suspects are accused of taking between GH¢9,500 and GH¢22,000 from victims under the false pretence of securing placements into their preferred Senior High Schools (SHSs).

According to information available to The1957News, the twin sisters and their parents reported the matter to the Education Minister after allegedly being approached in connection with securing their preferred SHS placements.

Following the report, a team from the Ministry of Education, acting on the directives of Mr Iddrisu, arrested the two suspects at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Intelligence Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for investigation.

The information available to The1957News indicates that the amount allegedly collected from each victim depended on the school the victim sought to secure placement into, with payments ranging from GH¢9,500 to GH¢22,000.

During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly named two other individuals they identified as alleged accomplices in the scheme.

They named Nana Yaw Boateng, described as a supposed medical doctor at Kwadaso SDA Hospital in Kumasi, and Alex Asumani, also known as “Lexus”.

The two named individuals have been informed to report to the Intelligence Unit to assist with investigations as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged scheme and trace the persons identified as the main culprits.

Vicentia Appiah Antwi and Suzzy Owusu were interrogated and cautioned before being detained for 24 hours.

They were subsequently granted bail and released to a credible surety to assist investigators in their efforts to trace and arrest the alleged main culprits.

Statements have also been obtained from the two victims and their parents as part of the ongoing investigation.
