The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians in connection with an alleged organised syndicate involved in the theft and illegal export of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) service cables.

The suspects, who include managerial staff of Sentuo Company, were apprehended during a police raid at the company’s premises in the Kpone Industrial Area, Tema, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m.

The operation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters Operations Unit in collaboration with officials from the Ministry of Energy, following credible intelligence that stolen ECG cables were being processed at the facility for export.

Briefing journalists in Accra on Monday, March 9, 2026, Director-General of CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, said officers discovered more than 100 drums of service cables suspected to belong to ECG upon raiding the premises.

She explained that approximately 70 employees were found actively cutting the cables into pieces, stripping the insulation to extract bare metal wires, which were then compressed into blocks believed to be prepared for export.

“The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters Operations Unit, in collaboration with officials of the Ministry of Energy, has uncovered a large cache of stolen Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) service cables and arrested 10 suspects in connection with an organised cable theft and metal export syndicate,” DCOP Donkor stated.

The two Ghanaian suspects arrested are Samuel Ekpe and Priscilla Padu.

The eight Chinese nationals, said to hold managerial roles at Sentuo Company, are Yuxiaoting, He Jing, Xu Changjiu, Li Lei, Chen Jin, Zheng Ma, Wang Jian and Bin Bin.

Police have placed a 24-hour guard at the company premises to secure the recovered materials and prevent any tampering while investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against the theft of critical national infrastructure.

Authorities noted that the persistent stealing and illegal export of ECG cables have severely disrupted electricity supply to communities, businesses and public institutions across the country.

The Police Service reiterated its commitment to collaborating with relevant state agencies to safeguard national assets and ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice.
