Unemployed teachers hit Accra streets to demand immediate recruitment

Graduates from various teacher training colleges have taken to the streets of Accra to demand immediate recruitment into the Ghana Education Service.

Marching under the banner Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers, the group began their protest on Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2025, with the intention of proceeding to the Jubilee House to present their grievances.

Wielding placards that highlighted their demands, some protesters were captured by The 1957 News cameras holding up their academic certificates and teaching licensure documents.

According to the coalition, many of its members have been unemployed for over five years while awaiting posting.

The demonstrators say their frustration has been compounded by the absence of a clear recruitment timeline from the government and the lack of any specific budgetary allocation for their financial clearance in the 2026 Budget and Economic Policy presented recently by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
